Bone Density Scan (DEXA)
Bone densitometry is another name for Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry or DEXA. These scans measure bone loss using a very small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body.
DEXA testing a standardized method to diagnose osteoporosis, and is considered an accurate estimator of fracture risk. Our machine allows us to screen, diagnose, and monitor female and male bone health. We can also use it to calculate total body composition (BMI).
CT Scan
We use a 128-slice GE Optima 660 CT scanner that quickly acquires high-quality images for a variety of applications. It can produce detailed and precise images of the body, which is particularly important for diagnosing and monitoring certain medical conditions. The machine is comfortable for patients of all ages and sizes.
Our software applications offer the potential for lower-dose scans, which may decrease a patient’s exposure to radiation. They also provide metal artifact reduction, reducing the streaking or blurring in the images caused by metal in the body (such as cavities or hip prostheses, for example) that can affect the diagnosis.
Patient preparation for each exam will vary according to the test ordered by your medical provider. Please call the Imaging Services Department for more information at 785.677.4144.
MRI
Through the GE Signa Voyager offered through Shared Medical Services, we are pleased to offer patient-centered MRI service to our Imaging Services capabilities.
More space for your comfort.
The 70 cm wide bore, 50 cm field of view and 550lb table weight limit can alleviate concerns and provide a sense of calm during your exam. Sound levels are minimized through noise-reducing technology. Breathe-free and Motion-free applications eliminate the need for holding your breath and lying completely still during the exam, decreasing your stress level and experience of claustrophobia.
Exams that meet your mood. High-quality imaging.
Select the sound and lighting ambiance to fit your mood for a highly personalized experience. Through increased signal, we can capture high quality images with a short exam time, decreasing the number of patients who require more invasive sedation techniques.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is available weekly through Shared Medical Services, a mobile unit. Instead of radiation, MRI uses a magnetic field to obtain images and is a key tool in diagnosing symptoms, forecasting results, and treating many areas of the body, including the brain, spine, musculoskeletal system, cancer, and more. The experienced technologists provide diagnostic exams for a wide range of pathological conditions and can tailor the experience to make it more comfortable for our patients.
Patients with the following conditions should consult with provider before undergoing an MRI:
- Patients with implanted medical devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators
- Patients with concern for claustrophobia or extreme anxiety
- Patients with history of shrapnel or metal foreign bodies from gunshots, welding, or grinding
Patient preparation for each exam will vary according to the test ordered by your medical provider.
